Brewing
Custom Brewing is a modded mechanic based on Witchery's brewing system. It requires a Witch's Cauldron in order to concoct some brews.
Getting Started
Highly recommend installing Patchouli and create the Witch's Brew book.
A Witch's Cauldron is needed to create brews.
The Cauldron should be placed above a heat source, like a Magma Block, Lava, Fire or Campfire. Right-clicking on the Cauldron with a Water Bucket will fill it.
Once the Cauldron water is boiling, the player can begin the brewing process.
The process has 4 steps: Capacity -> Catalyst -> Augmentation -> Completion To begin the brewing process, the brew must attain capacity. Capacity is what allows the brew to have effects and augmentation.
To give the brew capacity, the player must throw a Nether Wart onto a boiling Witch Cauldron, which will emit purple particles and play chiming sounds.
Next the brew must now obtain catalysts. Catalysts are items that to specifies the brew's effect once thrown into the Cauldron. Certain catalysts take up more than one Capacity and have adds to the Soul Cost.
Then the brew can be augmented with additional properties, like longer duration and quicker drinking time. This step is optional, and each augmentation increases the Soul Cost of the brew.
Once the brew has its effects and augmentations, it can now enter the completion stage.
To begin the stage, there must be at least a Soul Candlestick nearby the cauldron. The Soul Candlestick siphons the soul energy from the Cursed Cage its placed on and sends it to the Cauldron.
To begin the actual process, right click on the cauldron with a Cauldron Ladle:
This will cause the cauldron to siphon soul energy from nearby candlesticks. The more candlesticks nearby, the quicker the process becomes.
After siphoning enough soul energy, the brewing process will be completed, and the player can start bottling the brew.
Failure
If something went wrong with the brewing process (ie. adding an item onto the cauldron before putting in the Nether Wart), the brew will turn sickly brown and the cauldron will emit smoke.
The failed brew can be removed by bottling it into Bottle of Refuse, or by right-clicking on the cauldron with a Wand or Staff while crouching.
Capacity
Each effect and augmentation has a capacity requirement, add these ingredients in order to increase a brew's capacity. Increased capacity is needed to add multiple effects and augmentation to a brew, certain effects requires more capacity. It's only at this stage that capacity can be increased.
- +4 = Nether Wart
- +2 = Crimson Fungus
- +2 = Snap Warts
- +2 = Awakened Emerald
- +2 = Concentrated Emerald
- +4 = Ruby of Souls
Catalyst
Catalysts are when items are added to the Cauldron that give the brew an effect. Effects are what happens when the brew is used. To apply an effect to a brew the correct capacity must be available.
Vanilla effect catalysts
Most vanilla effects have catalyst for brewing with a witch's cauldron, unlike with vanilla brewing there are no effect inversions and instead every effect has their own item, additionally there are effects normally not accessible from potions.

Goety effect catalysts
Goety itself additionally adds many new potion effects, most of which are accessible by brewing, just like the vanilla effects there are no effect inversions despite some effects being mirrored versions of each other(for example Ender Ground and Ender Flux), additionally most Goety catalysts effects have descriptions in the Witch's Brew patchouli book(though the detail of those descriptions can vary).

Augmentation
Increases the effects of the brew and even modifies how the brew is dispersed. Each augmentation takes up 1 Capacity. The number next to the ingredient shows how much the available Soul Cost is increased by.
Dispersal
How the brew is dispersed in the world. Subsequent brew types require the previous type to be applied (ie. Brew must be Splash brew before it can be Lingering Brew).
- Gunpowder - Splash Brew
- Dragon's Breath - Lingering Brew.
- Wind Core - Gas Brew.
Duration
Increases effect duration of the brews.
- Redstone Dust - x1.25
- Prismarine - x1.5
- Chorus Flower - x2
Amplification
Increases the level of effect of the brews.
- Glowstone Dust - x2
- Blaze Rod - x2.5
- Mystic Core - x3
Area of Effect
Applies only for Splash, Lingering or Gas brews. Increases the area of effect of the brews.
- Charcoal - x1.25
- Firework Star - x1.5
- Tall Skull - x2
Lingering
Applies only for Lingering or Gas brews. Increases the duration of Brew Clouds or Gases.
- Hanging Roots - x1.25
- Big Dripleaf - x1.25
- Spore Blossom - x1.25
Drinking Speed
Applies only for normal brews. Decreases the time to drink the brew.
- Honey Bottle - x1.25
- Glow Lichen - x1.25
- Turtle Egg - x1.25
Velocity
Applies only for Splash, Lingering or Gas brews. Increases how far the player can throw the brew.
- Snowball - x1.25
- Bow - x1.25
- Crossbow - x1.25
Liquid Modifiers
Modifies how the brew interacts with liquids
- Tube Coral - Thrown brews are no longer affected by water.
- Netherite Scrap - Brews don't burn in lava or fire.
Cosmetic
Modifies how the brew looks.
- Eye of Ender - Hides potion particles from effects.
- Dyes - Changes the color of the brew(aren't dyes technically a catalyst?)
Bottling(wip)
Bottling level
When a player bottles brews, they gain 1 bottling experience, for every 20 bottling experience they have they gain a bottling level (this number can be configured with "bottlingLevelReq" in "goety-brews.toml").
By default a player may only gain up to 5 bottling levels (configurable with "maxBottlingLevel" in "goety-brews.toml").
These bottling levels increase how many brews can be bottled per brewing session.
Extra Brews
By default, a player can only bottle 3 brews from a cauldron (1 per each water level) however this number can be increased by multiple factors.
- A player is guaranteed to get 1 extra brew per brewing level (default limit of 5).
- A player is guaranteed to get 1 extra brew per Bottling effect level (this normally has a maximum level of 4).
- A player has a cumulative 25% chance to get 1 extra brew if an owned black cat in a 16 block area around the cauldron.
- A player has a cumulative 25% chance to get 1 extra brew if they are wearing a Witch Hat, or up to 2 extra brews if they are wearing a Crone Hat instead.
- A player has a cumulative 25% chance to get 1 extra brew if they are wearing a Witch Robe.
All the chance based extra brews have a (25%/50%/75%) chance to trigger when bottling brews passed the guaranteed extra brew amount, if this check fails then the cauldron will instead lose 1 water level to produce the brew, however even if this fails there still is the chance that subsequent bottlings could produce extra brews until the cauldron is fully empty.
This means that under optimal circumstances it is possible to get 12 to 16 brews from a single brewing session.
Alternative Bottles(wip)
(WIP, stuff about apples, taglocks, and waystones here)
Tips
- Crouching and right-clicking on the witch's cauldron with a Wand or Staff will remove its contents. Doing this will not refund any items that had been thrown into it.
- The witch's cauldron can be interacted with Dispensers.
- Placing the witch's cauldron in a biome under the tag "has_structure/swamp_hut" will reduce the Soul Cost by 1%.
- Placing up to 3 Witch Poles near the cauldron also reduced the Soul Cost, with each providing a 1% discount
- Apples can be used to bottle up brew instead of glass bottles. If advancedTootips is false, the resulting apple would be indistinguishable from a regular one, as it uses the same texture. Eating it will give the brew's effects, similar to drinking a brew bottle. The apple should not be used for splash, lingering and gas brews.
